Continuing my digi adventure, I completed the last LO from Jessica’s Now We’re Rockin’ intermediate course.
It turned out very cute, but it’s never going to be one of my favourites. I like it, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t tickle my funny bone.
Same thing with the 2nd LO from the next class, Dig In Deep.
For this one, I think I can pinpoint part of the reason I like it, but I don’t love it. That big old star. Just not me. In fact, I may well go back and edit it out.
However even without that star, it isn’t one that just calls out to me. And, I think I know why. I’m a linguist. My world revolves around language. Puns and word play (including satire, irony and sarcasm!) are the highest forms of humour, to me. And recently (as in the past 6 or 8 months) I’ve realised that part of my inspiration process revolves around language. The first thing I start with is my photos. But my photos don’t then suggest a LO, they suggest a story. And the story starts with a title. When I try and do a LO without having a title, I really struggle. And, when I do a LO with a prosaic title (like “Camden Market”), it’s fine. But it doesn’t just get my blood pumping. The Title “Then & Now” isn’t terribly exciting, either. It’s aptly descriptive, but there’s no thrill or giggle in it.
So, what does leave me with that feeling of ultimate satisfaction? Well… here’s one for you. The 1st LO from the Dig in Deep class.
I completely love this LO! Not only does it have some fantastic elements (like that very awesome circle frame. And the gorgeous background frame) but, also, I love the title. It totally makes me giggle. I’ve been wanting to use this title for ages. It’s actually the title of a book I saw in town. Totally tickled my funny bone. Love it. I’d been trying to figure out how to use it. So, when I saw the colours being used for this class’ LO, and realised that it would go great with this photo of me at Leeds Castle, it was like the lightbulb went on in my head. I knew exactly what title I was going to use.
4 days later, I’m still giggling about it. That’s the sign of a great LO!

I like all of the pages. I will say I agree that the title Then and now is not quite the right one. I do like how the title wraps around the corner of the photos though. You are doing a great job with these digis.
Yeah… I just went with the title she had set out for the project. It makes sense, but . . . it’s just not quite me.
If you were to go back and try to find a title to suit the LO, would you like them better? I know titles are generally your inspiration but maybe you might be able to put a new spin on these LOs if you can rework the titles. (I’m assuming you saved them in psd format.) I like them all and I love the colours in the Camden Market one. And the bike riding one should be very dear to you. So, I’m thinking that if you could change the stories and titles you might fall in love with them.
Hmmm…. I don’t know. I don’t hate them, so it’s not that I feel too much of a need to change things. Well, the “Then & Now” LO, I am probably going to go back and delete that big star in the background. That’s just SO not me. If I just got rid of that, it would go a long way to making me love it more. As for the title, I’m not bothered by it, it just doesn’t tickle my funny bone. It’s fine.
